Two Special Invitational Exhibits |
To celebrate 3 decades since the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society was founded in 1976, we are having an unprecedented 3 exhibits on display throughout the Philadelphia region. Following a wonderfully successful juried exhibit at the Free Library of Philadelphia, “Ben’s Pearls of Wisdom,” (June 26 – Sept. 1), PCS is excited to have the opportunity to introduce calligraphic artwork to new audiences in South Jersey and the Lehigh Valley. These two invitational exhibits will display members’ work that has already been juried in PCS exhibits over the past few years. Come see the shows and celebrate at the receptions! |

|
| On July 15, 2006 at the Free Library, Youth Education Chair, Arlene Spector, organized a community outreach program to introduce the library's clients to English Roundhand, the style of writing done in Ben Franklin's time. Against the backdrop of our "Ben's Pearls of Wisdom" Exhibit, Arlene and fellow members Shirlee DiBacco, Ellie Gloeser, Deborah Kaplan, Liz Kleinert, Tracy Massey, Elaine Reynolds, Roz McKelvey, and Dawn Norwood inscribed bookmarks, taught how to write with a pointed pen, and helped participants to make small accordion books. More than 200 participants signed in for this program and proceeded to enjoy the exhibit with their newfound knowledge of calligraphy. |

The annual PCS Philadelphia Flourishes exhibit was on display from January 16 to March 16, 2004, hosted by the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists (McGopa) at their Schuylkill Printing Plant Galleries in the Inquirer Building. An opening reception with music and refreshments was held on Sunday, January 25th from 2-5 PM at the SPP Galleries, 800 River Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406. In an effort to include as many members’ works as possible, this was a non-juried show. Also, for the first time, we invited members to submit a piece of non-calligraphic art for each calligraphic entry in order to show off the breadth of talent that our members possess! Photos of the event are here. |
