An opportunity for members of the
Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society:
your own web page on the PCS website,
www.philadelphiacalligraphers.org
PCS members can present examples of their work and describe their specialties, accomplishments, inspirations, and experiences on their own web page in a special area of the PCS website. This will enable you to direct clients, colleagues, students, friends, and prospective employers to your own personal presence on the web -- without the effort and expense of creating a complete website, or paying to have one created.
With the proliferation of email, e-business, and the pervasive use of the Internet for everything from research to shopping, artists who want to show their work are well-advised to “get on board.”
The PCS Webmaster will provide a page format that allows for three thumbnail images and approximately 300 words of copy; clicking on each thumbnail image will bring up a full-size version of that image.
Images should be in TIFF (.tif or .tiff), JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), GIF (.gif), or PNG (.png) format; they can be any size or resolution, but they will be converted to 72 pixels-per-inch, with a six-inch maximum dimension, before being put on the site. If you use JPEG format, use a quality setting no less than ¾ of the “best”; if “best” is 100, that would be 75, and if “best” is 0 or 1, that would be 25.
If you are unable to format your images in the ways described above, you can take slides or photos of your work to a photo store (e.g. The Camera Shop) and have them transfer the images onto a CD. Show them the specifications outlined above.
Copy should be in MS Word (.doc) or RTF (.rtf) format, or plain text (.txt). Formatting will not be preserved, so don’t bother using fancy typefaces, italics, or bold. If you don’t have MS Word, don’t worry: most word processing programs will export RTF and text files; check your documentation or the help system.
Both images and copy can be submitted via email to
member-site@philadephiacalligraphers.org
or on floppy disks or CD and mailed to:
Meg Kennedy, 1408 Greywall Lane, Wynnewood, PA 19096
You should provide adequate contact information along with your description so that anyone who wants to see more of your work or enlist your services will be able to get in touch with you.
We are working on getting our website linked to those of other societies ,and this will expand your page’s viewing audience. Not only will this exposure enhance your artistic reputation, it will promote the mission of the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society: to advance the knowledge and appreciation of calligraphy and to encourage the exchange of ideas among our members and the arts community.
Subscription to this service will be $24 per year — only $2/month. This opportunity is open to all categories of PCS membership, and is free to Exhibit Patrons.
Whether you are an established professional or an amateur who would like to start generating some income from your hobby, signing on for a web-page is an inexpensive way to promote yourself. So, join other 21st Century lettering artists and stake your claim in cyberspace!
If you are interested in joining PCS in order to take advantage of this web page opportunity, please contact membership chair Ellie Gloeser by either phone (856-354-0887) or email.
